Being featured on the Top 2% Scientists list is a prestigious recognition, but not having your name on the list does not mean your research lacks impact or visibility. Many early-career researchers and developing scientists are still building their academic profiles, and there are other meaningful ways to showcase your contributions to the global research community.
Why You May Not See Your Name Yet

The Top 2% list is based on data from large-scale bibliometric analyses, which consider metrics such as citations, publications, and field-standardized scores. If you are still growing your publication record or working in a specialized area, it may take some time before you qualify for inclusion. This is a normal step in every researcher’s journey.
How to Showcase Your Research Impact
Even if you are not on the Top 2% list, you can still highlight your contributions effectively when applying for grants, funding proposals, or academic positions. Metrics and curated profiles that showcase your research story can demonstrate your influence in ways beyond citation counts alone.
Introducing the Researcher Connect Plan
To support early-career scientists and those not yet on the Top 2% list, TOPSCINET offer the Researcher Connect Plan through our platform. This plan allows you to:
- Update your profile picture and personalize your professional presence
- Connect with other scientists in your field to expand your academic network
- Generate a shareable link to your social research profile, perfect for CVs, proposals, and applications

By building your professional profile on our platform, you can effectively communicate your contributions and strengthen your visibility, even before you qualify for the Top 2% ranking.

It is important to note that subscribing to the Researcher Connect Plan does not impact whether your name appears on the Top 2% Scientists list; it is neither a guarantee nor a requirement for inclusion. This plan simply allows you to connect with other researchers and update your profile. Also, TOPSCINET uses the Excel data from Stanford/Elsevier purely as a search tool for users, but we are not affiliated with Stanford or Elsevier and have no influence on adding or removing names from the list.
Visibility and impact
Visibility and impact in the scientific community go beyond one ranking. By actively shaping your research profile and engaging with a global network, you highlight your achievements, make your work more discoverable, and prepare yourself for inclusion in the future.
Being featured on the Top 2% Scientists list is a prestigious recognition, but not having your name on the list does not mean your research lacks impact or visibility.
If your name isn’t on the Top 2% list yet, think of it as motivation—not a limitation. Your contributions are valuable, and with tools like Researcher Connect, you can ensure they get the attention they deserve.

Dear Stanford Citation Database Team,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing regarding my citation profile and its reflection in the 2025 release of the “World’s Top 2% Scientists” list. I was honored to be included in the 2022–2024 editions, which recognized my career-long contributions in Materials Science and related interdisciplinary fields. However, in the 2025 update, my name was not reflected, and upon closer analysis, I believe this discrepancy arises primarily from subject field misclassification in my Scopus profile.
Currently, my profile has been categorized under Mechanical (Transportation). While I do have contributions in mechanical engineering aspects of tribology, my primary and most impactful research contributions are in:
Materials Science and Engineering
Energy Storage Materials and Nanocomposites
Tribology and Surface Engineering
Nanotechnology and Advanced Functional Materials
As highlighted in my CV (attached), my academic track record reflects the following achievements:
Citations: More than 6,800
h-index: 43
i10-index: 123
Publications: 25 in 2024 and 25 in 2025 alone, with over 200 career publications
Research themes: Advanced materials for energy storage, nanocomposites, graphene, borophene, tribological applications, biocompatible titanium-based nanomaterials, and MAX phases
Global impact: Recognized internationally through invited talks, editorial roles, book projects, and supervision of multiple PhD and MSc theses
The overwhelming majority of these publications and citations are within Materials Science, Energy Storage, and Tribology, rather than Mechanical Transportation. This field misclassification has likely impacted the calculation of my composite c-score and percentile, leading to exclusion from the 2025 Top 2% list despite significant impact and sustained output.
I therefore respectfully request:
That my primary research field be corrected to “Materials” (with Tribology/Mechanical Engineering as secondary if needed).
That my 2025 profile be reconsidered under the appropriate field classification, so that my contributions are fairly represented in the Top 2% Scientists database.
I deeply appreciate the enormous effort your team undertakes to ensure transparency and rigor in the citation indicator database. My request is made in the spirit of ensuring that my research contributions are properly aligned with the correct scientific field for accurate global representation.
Thank you very much for your kind attention and support.
Sincerely,

The release of 2% scientist data base is incorrect. The researchers with high h-index (more than 30) and citations (more than 4000) are not listed while those have h-index only 15 and citations 1000-2000 in the same field are listed.
Therefore, it is requested you to kindly correct your calculations so that actual picture could come out.
I am writing to seek clarification regarding the recent release of the Stanford–Elsevier “Top 2% Scientists” list. I have gone through the dataset carefully and, to my surprise, did not find my name included, despite having a strong research track record with numerous publications in reputed journals and international conferences.
While reviewing the list, I noticed the inclusion of several researchers whose publication record and journal quality appear to be comparatively less impactful. This has raised questions for me about the criteria and methodology used in compiling the rankings. I fully respect the effort and scientific rigor behind the project, but I would like to understand the following points:
Are all publications indexed exclusively through Scopus, and how does this affect researchers whose work is published in venues not fully covered there?
To what extent do field-specific citation patterns influence inclusion? As you know, some disciplines, including Computer Science and Engineering, often have slower citation growth compared to fields like biomedicine.
Is there any provision for ensuring that quality of research (for example, publication in highly reputed venues) is given due weight, alongside raw citation counts?
I would greatly appreciate your guidance on how researchers like myself might ensure accurate representation in future iterations of the list. My objective is not to contest the results, but to better understand how the metrics apply, and how best to align my Scopus author profile to reflect my contributions more accurately.
Thank you for your time and for undertaking such a large-scale initiative, which has undoubtedly helped highlight global research contributions. I look forward to your kind response.
Hello.
My academic profile should be evaluated in the “Top 2% Scientists” list in the main field of “mining”.
The following “Subject Areas” were automatically recorded for my Scopus profile. However, my “Subject Areas” are more in the field of mining engineering. I completed my master’s, doctorate, and associate professorship in mining engineering. I’ve been working in the Mining Engineering Department at Adana Alparslan Türkeş University of Science and Technology for approximately 11.5 years. While some of my publications are multidisciplinary, all of them fall within the field of mining engineering. Therefore, all of my publications must be considered within the field of mining engineering. In other words, I should be considered for the “Top 2% Scientists” list in the fields of “Mining” or “Mining + Metallurgical Engineering.” I request that the necessary corrections be made to the lists in this field for each year between 2020 and 2025. I believe that the reason I was not included in the “Top 2% Scientists” list for a significant portion of these years was due to the subject area being incorrectly classified in my Scopus profile. As can be seen from the publications in my CV, my primary research area in all of my publications is “Mining.” 26 of my publications published in the last five years are indexed in WOS. Nearly 20 of these are Q1 SSCI/SCI Expanded single-author publications. I’ve also been a member of the editorial board of Scientific Reports (SCI Expanded, Q1) since March 2025. I’ve also been involved in two different EU COST Actions to date. I’ve also served as a reviewer for nearly 100 WOS articles. While my citation count is low, I’ve noticed that individuals with similar citation counts, but far fewer publications, are listed in my country. I’m curious about the reason I haven’t been included in the top 2% list for the last 3-5 years. Aren’t all my publications or citations considered “mining”? Is that why I wasn’t included in the list?
“Subject areas” in my Scopus Profile
· Social Sciences
· Environmental Science
· Economics, Econometrics and Finance
· Earth and Planetary Sciences
· Agricultural and Biological Sciences
· Business, Management and Accounting
· Engineering
I will be looking forward to waiting for your news on whether I made it into the “Top 2% Scientists” list in the field of “Mining” or “Mining + Metallurgical engineering”.
Thank you very much for your kind attention and support.
Sincerely,
